One Direction Announced As Global Recording Artists Of 2013

They certainly have a lot of fans out there, but now One Direction can officially call themselves the Global Recording Artists of 2013, following their amazing chart success last year.

The British and Irish boy band have been named the Global Recording Artist of 2013 by the IFPI, a company which promotes the international recording industry, it has been revealed today.

Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik, the boys that make up the famous five-piece will be over joyed to discover that they can claim the coveted title, beating the likes of Eminem and Justin Timberlake.

Their success can be largely attributed to the incredible amount of music downloads and CD sales. Due to their amazing popularity, last year the boys became the first group EVER in US Billboard chart history to debut at the number one spot with their first three albums.

Of course they've not just enjoyed success Stateside, One Direction have also topped the UK chart with their third album, Midnight Memories.

YouTube has also been their friend, offering them almost 200 million views for their hilarious music video, Best Song Ever and more than 100 million for Story Of My Life.

It will be just another award in the trophy cabinet for the successful boys after already kicking off 2014 with plenty of accolades. Irish cutie, Niall has already thanked fans on Twitter after One Direction won at the People's Choice Awards as he shared: "Just found out we won favourite band at people's choice last night! Guys thank you so much , great start to 2014! Love you lots"

The boys will also be up for the Brit Awards in February this year, and it seems that this had Niall feeling rather emotional: "Holy c**p! We've been nominated for best group and best single at the Brits! I can't believe what's goin on! Honestly have a tear in my eye", he tweeted earlier this month.

The boy pipped the likes of Eminem and Justin Timberlake in the IFPI charts. The rapping supremo came in at number two, following the tremendous success of his album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2.

Second runner up went to Justin Timberlake for his third album, The 20/20 Experience, which was released in March 2013.

Harry Styles Wears See-Through Shirt To Accept His British Fashion Award

The One Direction hottie chose a see-through black shirt for the prestigious fashion event and gave us all a treat by flashing his abs..

The You Don't Know You're Beautiful singer teamed his transparent top with a pair of very tight skinnies, a trendy scarf and a lot of hairspray.

And the 19-year-old Lothario actually won an award- the British Style Award. And he beat his idol, Becks , and the likes of Kate Moss, Kate Middleton and even Cara D to get it.

The award "recognises an individual who most embodies the spirit of London and is an international ambassador for London as a leading creative fashion capital."

We're not sure we could think of anyone better for it.

Earlier in the evening, the floppy-haired singer was seen hanging out with Rita Ora and her boobs.

The R.I.P singer turned up to the British Fashion Awards in a very revealing 50s style strapless sequined gown which really showed off her assets.

The singer teamed her gown with a pair of silver hoop earrings, a sparkly clutch bag and pointy patterned courts.

And with her hair in loose waves and a dab of red lippy, Calvin's girl looked oh so Marilyn-esque as she posed for pictures looking sultry (and super boobie). 

On the red carpet, the singer bumped into Playboy cover star Kate Moss, who looked fierce in a leather LBD and cream fur coat.

The blonde pair snuggled up together and smiled for the cameras - we never knew they were such good pals!

Beside them, also gracing the red carpet, were A-listers Rosie Huntington-Whitley, Harry Styles, Kelly Brook and Alexa Chung.

Dressed in a very low cut red blazer, red skin-tight trousers and some colour-block trousers, M&S lingerie designer and all-round-hotpiece Rosie HW dazzled as she posed on the red carpet. 

With her hair slicked back a la bond-girl, Jason Statham's missus looked like a total fashionista.

She was joined by IT author Alexa Chung, who was dressed in a trendy white mini-frock and black strappy heels.

One Direction’s Midnight Memories Tops The Album Chart and becomes Fastest Selling Album Ever

One Direction will be celebrating today after their album Midnight Memories not only shot to number one in the UK Album Charts, but also became their fastest selling album to date.

Not only that, but it's on course to take the accolade of being the fastest selling artist album of 2013.

Midnight Memories, which is the boyband's third LP, went straight in at the top of the Offical UK Albums Chart yesterday, knocking Robbie Williams off his perch.

It's also their second UK number one album after Take Me Home went to number one last year, a spot higher than their debut album Up All Night, which was released in 2011.

Midnight Memories has sold more than 237,000 copies during the last seven days, beating the first week tallies of 2011’s Up All Night (139,000 copies week one) and 2012’s Take Me Home (155,000 copies).

And being the fastest selling artist album of 2013 so far, it overtakes Random Access Memories by Daft Punk, the previous record holder, which sold 165,000 copies during its first week sale in the UK back in May.

Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Chief Executive, said: “It is a fantastic first week for One Direction, whose album is not just the fastest seller of the year - but is also the first artist title to sell more than 200,000 copies in a week since Michael Buble‘s Christmas album in December, 2011.

"The success really does send a signal that the festive season is almost with us - and means 1D are now real contenders to claim the biggest album of the year.”

Meanwhile, as Williams drops two places to number three with his album Swings Both Ways - which last weekend became the UK's 1,000th number one album, his Take That bandmate Gary Barlow makes his chart debut at number two with his long awaited solo album, Since I Saw You Last.

The X Factor judge also claimed a bigger first week sales figure than Robbie, who opened on sales of more then 109,000 copies last week, while Gary clocked up just over 116,000 sales this week.

At number four is Robbie's new best friend Olly Murs, whose album Right Place Right Time jumped a whopping 92 places following the release of a special edition version of the LP, which topped the charts when it was first released in November last year.

And Eminem clings on to a top five slot as his The Marshall Mathers LP 2 dropped three places to number five.

One Direction Boys Performs ‘Story Of My Life’ On ‘The X Factor’

The boys of One Direction came home Nov. 21, as they performed “Story Of My Life” on The X Factor, the very franchise that first spawned them three years ago. The performance was technically recorded on Nov. 20, then aired during the live results show, but that didn’t make their electrifying rendition of any less memorable.

All five Directioners – Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Liam Payne – were in rare form, crooning the emotional lyrics over the hordes of screaming fangirls. 1D’s performance was the perfect addition to The X Factor‘s live-yet-lifeless results show, giving it a much-needed boost of energy.

Of course, One Direction’s performance didn’t get nearly as much as attention as its frontman’s post-show rendezvous. Harry, 19, was spotted grabbing dinner with none other than Kendall Jenner, 18, at Craig’s in West Hollywood. The dinner was reportedly of a romantic nature, and eyewitnesses saw the duo sneaking out a back entrance into Harry’s SUV.

A source close to Kendall confirmed to an online tabloide that this was, in fact, Harry’s first date with the reality TV princess — and we can’t help but wonder if a second date is in the cards.

Two lucky 19-year-old sisters, Daina Coxall and Tanya Coxall, got noticed by Harry during an Oct. 3 One Direction concert in Melbourne! Harry’s management requested her phone number to pass on to him, and Daina and Harry texted throughout the course of the show.

Harry and 1D guitarist Dan Richards then joined the pretty sisters after the show and partied at the Melbourne Supper Club and Pieface until the wee hours of the morning!

”Yeah (he was flirtatious) but you could tell that was just his personality,” Daina told The Herald Sun about their night out.”He was just so overly friendly. He gave us a kiss on the cheek and a cuddle when we first saw him. He was just really, really friendly.”

The sisters both have boyfriends — and Taryn’s boyfriend Andreas Cudia didn’t even have an issue with the outing!

”She’s a big girl (who’s) just having a good time with her sister,” Andreas told the publication. ”It (images of Styles and Taryn) doesn’t really worry me, mate.”

Even though the date seemed to be friendly and harmless enough — tons of 1D fans took notice on Twitter — and didn’t like what they saw!

Even though the girls had fun, they didn’t escape the wrath of other 1D fans! The sisters got a ton of spiteful tweets about their night with Harry and Dan.

Some fans tweeted ”who … is daina coxall. send her back to where she came from” and ”Harry out tonight with a girl named Daina Coxall … I think I just puked,” according to the paper.

However, Daina responded maturely to the situation.

“I know that girls get jealous,” she told the paper. “I know they’d all want to meet him and they’d be like, ‘Oh, why do these girls get to meet them?’ I under where they’re coming from, so I just ignore it.”

However, her relationship with her boyfriend might be on the rocks after so many negative tweets about going out with Harry and Dan.

Harry Styles has reacts to Taylor Swift's MTV VMAs award acceptance speech.

The One Direction singer commented on Swift's sense of humour, after appearing to make reference to Styles during the MTV Video Awards 2013 ceremony.

On collecting the 'Best Female Video' award for 'I Knew You Were Trouble', Swift said: "I also want to thank the person who inspired this song, who knows exactly who he is, because now I got one of these."

Speaking to Extra at the group's This Is Us New York premiere, Styles said: "It's alright, she likes a joke. I like a joke as much as the next guy, so it's all good."

When asked about being pictured with Swift at an after party, the 19-year-old replied: "Yeah, I went for a drink with Ed and some friends. It was good."

Fellow bandmates Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson have already jumped to Styles's defence, calling the remark unnecessary.

The singer also praised Miley Cyrus's performance, adding: "I thought it was vanilla. I would feel comfortable watching it with my grandma."

A video of Swift appearing to tell the band to "shut the f ** k up" during the ceremony has already spread online.

I Expect Ex Taylor Swift To Write Songs About Me, Says Harry Styles

They only dated for a few months last year, before calling it quits in January. But Harry Styles has given his blessing to ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift to write songs about him and their time together.

Clearly not nervous following her previous releases such as Dear John - which was penned about her ill-fated and short-lived romance with much older John Mayer - the One Direction bandmember jokes, 'At least she's a great songwriter!'

In an interview with Us Weekly, on newsstands now, the teen heartthrob admits he understands the 23-year-old's writing process.

And he certainly doesn't hold any ill will towards her for using her personal life as inspiration for her successful music career.

'It would be hypocritical for me to say she couldn't do it, because everybody writes songs based on personal experience. I can't say I'd have dated someone less famous to avoid it.'

Nor would he ever avoid dating another celebrity simply in order to protect himself from the 'hassle'.

'You like people for who they are, so I couldn't say I want to date someone less famous because of the hassle. You like who you like,' he insists.

The 19-year-old lothario reveals he looks for a girl with a 'cute laugh and a good smile' that he can 'have fun with' when it comes to relationships.

'I like someone who's up for doing stuff in terms of, like, trying new things and going out new places. Not just someone who does nothing and wants to sit around,' he adds.

And while he is currently single, he has his head on straight when it comes to dating in the public eye since becoming such a hot commodity.

'Relationships are hard enough, so I think you have to completely ignore everything from outside,' he tells the magazine. 'When you're in the opening stages of a relationship as it is, you're still under the pressure of getting to know everything about a person. If you have a lot of people from outside telling you what your relationship is, that's weird.

'I think you sort of have to block it out and just have the relationship rather than think - we're having this relationship play out on magazine covers.'

Meanwhile, Taylor gave her ex a reminder of what exactly he's missing as she stepped out for dinner at The Farm in Beverly Hills on Thursday.

The leggy blonde looked a million bucks in a summery pink and green floral dress, which she teamed with nude wedge heels and a red handbag.

With her hair pulled over one shoulder and rocking her signature blunt fringe, the star accessoried with bright red lips and black Ray-Ban sunglasses.

The singer is currently in town as she tours with her album Red, which has received rave reviews from everyone who's been lucky enough to score tickets to the sold-out concerts.

The rabid fan response bests that for Miley Cyrus' controversial new video, "We Can't Stop," which received 10.7 million views in its first day on the web.

The members of 1D put their acting chops on full display in the video, playing caricatures of people they may or may not have encountered in the music industry. Niall Horan sports a beard as the "Studio Exec"; Zayn Malik cross-dresses to play the "Sexy Assistant"; Harry Styles dons nerdy glasses as a misplaced "Marketing Guy"; Liam Payne breaks out his neon workout gear to play the flamboyant "Choreographer"; and Louis Tomlinson invokes Tom Cruise's Les Grossman from "Tropic Thunder," rocking a gold chain and a shaved dome.
