Television actress Sara Khan's vehicle overturned after hitting a road divider in Mumbai early Saturday, police said. There were no casualties.
The incident occurred around 3am when Sara Khan, her actor boyfriend ParasChhabra (23) and two others were returning home after attending a friend's birthday party. While trying to save a stray dog that came in its way, the vehicle turned turtle after it hit a divider, said the Oshiwara police.
The police said they did not see Khan or the other friends in the car. When they reached the spot, they only found Chhabra there. He had suffered minor bruises and the car was found overturned. "Chhabra was released on spot bail after he was booked under sections of the IPC for rash and negligent driving. A medical examination confirmed that he was not drunk," said inspector Baburao Mukhedkar.
Sara Khan's Car After Accident
The police said Khan and Chhabra were returning from friend Pratyush Banerjee's birthday party. Chhabra was at the wheel. "The car was at high speed when it hit the road divider and overturned. Later, the car were lifted with help of a crane," said the police.
Mukhedkar said, "Only Chhabra was present at the scene when our team got there, and the other three occupants had left. We do not have any record of Sara Khan being there."
"Chhabra claimed that he took a sharp turn and lost control of the car when he tried to save a dog crossing the road," the inspector said.
A source said Banerjee's car was following Sara's vehicle. After the accident, Khan and two of her friends got into Banerjee's car.
"We were returning from a party. At the turning of Mega Mall, a dog came in the way. To save it, Paras took a slight right turn and banged into the divider. Next, I saw myself outside the car with my lip bleeding. Luckily, we all got saved," Khan told TOI.
She also clarified that her boyfriend was not drunk and alleged that the police had harassed him all through the night. She said, "He was taken for a medical test. Though he was cleared in it, they kept asking him if he was high on cocaine. The car has been damaged and we had to spend thousands to repair it."
Khan came into the limelight in the TV reality show, Bigg Boss, in 2010 when she married actor Ali Merchant. Later, she divorced him. She made her acting debut with Sapna Babul ka - Bidaai.
