R…Rajkumar movie review: Shahid Kapoor’s Dhanshoo Action Failed To Save Movie

Shahid Kapoor tries to be Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan at the same time and falls miles behind. You take a bowl and fill it with parts of Wanted, Chennai Express and numerous Telugu movies – what you get is mundane, no-brainer potboiler of a movie called R…Rajkumar

If your dabbawala gave you the same curry every day of the week, how would you feel? Definitely after a few days, you would get annoyed at the mundane monotonousness in your life. This is exactly the case with most Bollywood filmmakers nowadays. Why don’t they understand that if you serve the same old whiskey in a new bottle it does not become new.

This week’s offering R…Rajkumar is nothing different. In fact, it could be any of the many films that you have already seen. The boy-meets-girl-fights-with-villain of Chennai Express and the boy-joins-villain-and-becomes-the-informer of Wanted are still fresh in our minds. Then why combine the two and offer another one? Also, the wind farms of Andhra Pradesh have been shown a zillion times in Telugu movies, so why pick that same location for a Bollywood film?

To be honest, the biggest put off in the movie is the lack of a surprise element. The only time you are surprised is when Mukul Dev comes up and discloses his friendship with Shahid. Another big stumble is the comedy. The director has tried every trick in his book to tickle funny bones, but falls flat on his face. The unpersuasive, often clumsy and confused comedy scenes make your viewing even more difficult. The comedy sequences have old jokes and various other pathetic attempts that do not tickle you even a little bit.

Illogical action sequences and stunts that defy all rules of physics at times that make you wonder if the walls of your house are actually made of bricks and stones or not. In a hurry to make movies which earn more than Rs 100 crore, Prabhu Dheva has lost his touch. He has come out with the second no-brainer of the year after Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Like his past movies, this one too is laden with pinches of southern spices. The story is based in a small village where two drugs mafias, Sonu Sood and Ashish Vidyarthi are fighting with each other to be the sole kingpin of an opium business. Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor), who works for Sonu Sood and falls in love with Ashish Vidyarthi’s niece, has so much strength that he can single-handedly beat the pulp out of 100 goons at a time.

Although a good thing about the movie is that Shahid is back to acting. The actor displays the same intensity as he did in Kaminey and the same boyish charm he did in Jab We Met. Sonu Sood is good as he tried bettering his Dabangg act but did not have much scope. Still he did well enough to make other writer-directors think of him the very instance they write the character of a villain. Sonakshi Sinha’s character could have been portrayed by any background dancer in any of the songs and Shahid is actually not wrong when he says  tera weight dekha hai. You really feel that yes, he is adjusting. It’s time she starts experimenting with new roles as she has been constantly doing the same role over and over again. And a tip, Sona, please join a gym.

The music of the film is good and might be on the charts for sometime but there are way too many songs. Why don’t the directors understand that if they want to put in five songs each of five minute they might as well make a separate music video and spare the viewer of an extra half hour. And who the heck has an item number on their wedding day?

If you are a die-hard fan of south movies or a bigger fan of their no-brainer potboiler Hindi remakes, then do go for this movie and have a gala time. For the rest, wait for the DVD or better still watch it, free of cost, when it comes on TV.

I Will Not Marry A Girl of My Father's Choice Says Shahid Kapoor

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor today dismissed reports about his father actor Pankaj Kapoor looking for a girl for him and said that he will choose the life partner for himself.

Recently, there were reports that Shahid's father had made a few trips to Punjab to find a girl for his son.

"I can promise you that my father is not looking for any girl for me. When I read that article I was shooting for 'Haider' in Kashmir and my father was shooting for 'Finding Fanny' in Goa. And according to the article my father was in Punjab... So no truth in it," Shahid told PTI.

"He (father) goes there (Punjab) because some of our family and his spiritual guru is there. People are drawing a different meaning out of it. He will never take the pressure on himself (of looking for a girl), because I am quite finicky. And I like making my own choices," he said.

When asked what he feels about the absence of lady love in his life, he says that it has its pros and cons.

Shahid asserts that as far as marriage is concerned, he would choose his own life partner. "I will not marry a girl of father's choice, because he doesn't have to stay with the girl, I have to stay. And he knows this thing," he added.

In the past, Shahid was reportedly in a relationship with Kareena Kapoor. Later, he also reportedly dated Vidya Balan and Priyanka Chopra.

Besides them, his name was linked with actresses Nargis Fakhri, Bipasha Basu, Anushka Sharma and Huma Qureshi.

When asked what he looks for in a girl, Shahid says, "I have not thought about it so much. When you fall in love everything seems right... If I fall in love that will be good enough."

After showcasing his comic skills in 'Phata Poster Nikhla Hero', Shahid Kapoor goes in full on action mode for his upcoming film R...Rajkumar.

Posters of the film has been released and Shahid Kapoor's role looks a sharp contrast against his most recent movie 'Phata Poster Nikla Hero'.

The movie was earlier 'Rambo Rajkumar' but was soon renamed to the current title. This'll also be the first time that the actor will be seen working with Sonakshi Sinha. Actress Shraddha Kapoor is also reportedly doing an item number in the Film.

Directed by Prabhudeva, the film will release on December 6. Going by the poster the film looks a trademark Prabudeva action flick and Shahid's most massy film till date.

The film is produced by Sunil Lulla & Viki Rajani.

Ileana D'Cruz on The Sets of Comedy Nights With Kapil at Promotion of Phata Poster Nikla Hero

Comedy Nights With Kapil, hosted by Kapil Sharma, this week will have Phata Poster Nikhla Hero stars Shahid Kapoor and Ileana D'Cruz on their sets promoting their upcoming film.

The show, which has now become the most happening place on TV to promote any film, has had almost all popular releases promoting their film on the show. The host Kapil Sharma is now the most sort after comedian in the industry and this success of his show is visible with the TRP's it has been getting.

Last week the show had the Chopra sisters promoting their respective films, Priyanka Chopra promoting Zanjeer on Comedy Nights With Kapil along with her co-star Ram Charan Teja and Parineeti Chopra promoting her film Shuddh Desi Romance with her co-star Sushant Singh Rajput. Both the sister visibly had fun on the sets, all thanks to Mr Kapil, and this week too, the actors Shahid and Ileana had a good time on the sets.

The film Phata Poster Nikla Hero is about an aspiring actor, Vishwas Rao, who will be mistaken as a super cop. The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Ramesh Taurani, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor and is expected to release on the 20th September.

Sonakshi Sinha's City-Girl Awatar In Prabhu Deva’s Next

Sonakshi Sinha is an accomplished actress, feels director Prabhu Deva. So, while Prabhu is already doing Rambo Rajkumar with her, he has also signed Sonakshi for his next, an Ajay Devgn-starrer. 

However, Prabhu Deva wasn’t sure whether she will say yes to his project with Ajay Devgn. As per sources, when Prabhu offered the Devgn-starrer to Sonakshi he was not sure if she would opt for a male-centric film at this juncture in her career, when she’s playing central characters in films like Lootera and Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobaara!. But to his surprise, she agreed. 

Prabhu Deva’s wish was granted! However, the director wasn’t satisfied with the role he offered to Sonakshi, so he got down to rewrite it so that her character integrates well into the script’s central drama. It’s learnt there was not much for the heroine to do in the film until Sonakshi stepped into the project.

Talking about his fixation with the actress, Prabhu says, “People ask, why Sonakshi every time? I ask, why not? She is a big star and a complete actress.” The director first worked with her in Rowdy Rathore, and since then they share a great rapport. 

Prabhu Deva is also grateful to Sonakshi for agreeing to do Rambo Rajkumar that has Shahid Kapoor in the lead, and now when she has given her nod for his actioner with Ajay Devgn, Prabhu wants to be sure that the actress’ presence in the film is justified. 

The director will also give her an image makeover in this film. Till now, Sonakshi Sinha has mostly done roles that required her to look desi, but in his next Prabhu Deva will turn her into a sophisticated city girl. That’s something the fans of Sonakshi Sinha will love to see

Wrap Up Party Of Phata Poster Nikla Hero [Photos]

Shahid Kapoor is excited about action and stunts in "Phata Poster Nikhla Hero" and "Rambo Rajkumar", but urges not to tag it as "southern action".

"There is no southern connection as such. I think we should stop saying this southern thing because today almost every second film has that kind of action and people seem to be really liking it. The entire country responds to that," the 31-year-old said at the wrap-up party of "Phata Poster Nikhla Hero".

"Phata Poster Nikhla Hero" will also see lead actress Ileana D'Cruz doing a few stunts and Shahid reveals that his co-star was nervous doing action scenes.

"If people enjoy it in the film, I will be happy because it is for the first time I am doing this kind of action. There is more coming in 'Rambo Rajkumar'. So both the films will have a lot of action and I am excited," he added.

"She was very nervous when we were doing stunts because she says her skin is sensitive and it gets bruised easily. She was very paranoid about that," Shahid said.

"But we did a few rehearsals. Ileana was a little uncomfortable and we tried our best to make her comfortable," he added.

Salman Khan Character In Shahid Kapoor's 'Phata Poster Nikla Hero'!

Mumbai: Actor Shahid Kapoor says his character in the forthcoming film 'Phata Poster Nikla Hero' is a fan of Bollywood star Salman Khan, who has also done a cameo in the movie.

"There's a little scene in the film where Salman sir is there...Salman sir was kind enough to do a special appearance in the film," the 32-year-old said here Friday at a press meet for the film.

'Phata Poster Nikla Hero' is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, who had earlier roped in Salman for a special appearance in his film 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' as well.

Talking about his character's fascination with Salman, Shahid said: "He (Shahid's character) is a very big fan of Salman Khan and in one scene we have even worn a 'Being Human' t-shirt and in another scene, the character has gone to buy vegetables with his mother and his hands are full and he is eating a banana standing and watching the poster of 'Dabangg 2'."

Manyata Dutt Signs Prabhu Dheva To Direct Sanjay Dutt Production's A Film!

While Sanjay Dutt's imprisonment has left many in shock, his production house seems to be having its hands full. Wife Manyata has been quite busy handling her husband's work after he was sentenced to Yerawada Jail recently.

Manyata Dutt has signed Prabhu Dheva to direct a film for Sanjay Dutt Productions. The film will star Sanjay Dutt and go on floors soon after Sanjay is released. The decision to sign Prabhu was taken jointly by Manyata and Sanju when Manyata visited her husband in Yerwada jail on July 3.

The couple decided that it was time that they sign the director who would wield the megaphone for the actor's comeback vehicle. They had short-listed a few names but eventually zeroed in on Prabhu, given his track record, which include blockbusters like Rowdy Rathore and Wanted.

Ever since his sentence was announced, Sanjay and Manyata were worried about the future of their production house, which was launched amid much fanfare a few years back, considering Manyata does not have the required experience to single-handedly run the show. Sanjay was also worried about his career-- how he would return to the big screen after such a long hiatus. So much so, that the couple had even approached Sanjay's close friends, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn, asking for advice.

Whether Prabhu coming on board of Sanjay's company is a result of Prabhu's rapport with Ajay and Salman is not known, but after returning from Pune, Manyata met Prabhu, who gladly accepted the offer.

While Manyata will start working on the modalities of the project, Prabhu Dheva will be busy with his Ajay Devgn starrer, which goes on floors early next year. As of now, Prabhu has completed the post production of Ramaiya Vastavaiya and is busy with the post production of Shahid Kapoor starrer Rambo Rajkumar.

Ex couple Ranbir and Deepika Padukone won the Best Jodi Award. Deepika, on accepting the award, said, "I love Ranbir and am missing him." 

Ranbir, who was widely praised for his performance in 'Barfi!' was named Best Actor for his act of a deaf-mute boy act. As he was not present at the ceremony film's director Anurag Basu accepted the award. 

Anurag Basu's romantic-comedy 'Barfi!', which won many awards throughout the year, bagged the Best Film, Director and Story Awards at the 14th edition of the Bollywood extravaganza leaving behind Agneepath, Vicky Donor and Gangs of Wasseypur.
