Kate Winslet Won't Name New Baby Bear Rocknroll

I’m sorry to say that this post will begin with some disappointing news: Kate Winslet’s third son, her first with third husband Ned Rocknroll (yes, for real that’s what he calls himself), will not bear the glorious Rocknroll family name. (He will, however, continue to bear the glorious first name Bear.)

“We haven’t ever really had that conversation; [the child] was always going to have my name,” the Oscar winner tells Glamour UK in a candid new interview. Winslet’s other children, Mia and Joe, already have “Winslet” as part of their names, she continued, “so it would be weird if this baby didn’t. Of course we’re not going to call it Rocknroll. People might judge all they like, but I’m a f—ing grown-up.”

Yowza! And that’s not all Kate had to say about any folks out there who may be judging her — for marrying a dude named Ned Rocknroll, for having three children with three different fathers, or for winning an Oscar for a Holocaust movie just four years after mocking that very notion on a hilarious episode of Extras. Actually, maybe scrap that last bit.

Anyway, here’s Winslet’s response to whoever is criticizing her personal life: “No one has a right to comment on anyone’s life or the choices I do or don’t make,” she tells Glamour, according to an excerpt in People. ”It’s very easy to be judgmental until you know someone’s truth. People have no idea at all. It baffles me, truly, that you can publicly treat a person like that. It’s not very nice… I’m really sorry to the nation’s press that I fell in love and got pregnant; I do apologize if you deem that irresponsible.”

Hmm — maybe she and Jennifer Lawrence should get together to form some sort of international anti-lady-shaming lobbying commission?

Kate Winslet Shows Her Growing Baby Bump In Classic Red Scarlet Gown

The stunning actress displayed a massive baby bump as she walked the red carpet.

But there was no comfy shoes and maternity pants for this hot mama. Kate went full-on glam in a floor-length scarlet gown that displayed her blossoming bump to perfection.

And she wasn't afraid to work her pregnancy curves as she showed off her cleavage with a low-cut neckline.

The jewelled detail under her bust brought even more attention to her voluptuous body.

Even though the 38-year-old complained that she was finding it difficult to squeeze her swelling size nines into pretty shoes, Kate slipped on a pair of black peep toes that added an edginess to her traditional cap-sleeved gown.

The Titanic actress wore her blonde hair up with a few loose curly tendrils around her face as she attended the London Film Festival screening of her new film Labor Day in Leicester Square.

Luckily there was no sign of actual labour as the heavily pregnant star tenderly cradled her bump for the cameras. 

Despite being heavily pregnant, Kate has not shied away from any public appearances. The blonde has been promoting Labor Day at film festivals around the world, and has looked effortlessly chic at every appearance.

Kate announced that she was pregnant with her third child in June. This will be the first kid for husband Ned Rocknroll, who is the nephew of Richard Branson.

Thankfully, Kate has said that she will not be taking her hubby's surname. Kate Rocknroll just doesn't have the same English rose ring to it.

Winslet, who appeared at the Toronto Film Festival this week to publicise Labor Day, married Richard Branson's nephew Ned Rocknroll in December last year and is now expecting her third child.

Winslet, who has previously been married to Jim Threapleton and Sam Mendes, told the Telegraph: “I was never going to change my name to Rocknroll. I’ve never changed my name to anything so I didn’t see a reason to start now.

"I quite like Kate Winslet; in fact I think it’s very flashy. I’m proud of my name because I’m one of three girls and we have one boy in our family so essentially the only person who is going to carry the name along is my brother and he doesn’t have any children at the moment.”

Speaking of her varied film roles, and her own experience with relationships, she said: “Of course I still believe in love. It’s up there with great food and the love for one’s child.

“My parents have been very happily married for well over 40 years now so to have grown up with that level of togetherness in the home was definitely something that was important to me and I’m sure I still carry that.”

She added she now feels “really happy” in life, adding that “things are wonderful”.

Winslet is currently playing a reclusive single mother, abandoned by her husband because she could not have any more children, in film Labor Day.

Earlier this year, a study found women were increasingly choosing to keep their own names after marriage, with a third of those in their twenties using their maiden name.

The survey, carried out using Facebook, found 62 per cent of married women in their twenties took on their spouse’s surname, compared with 74 per cent in their thirties and 88 per cent in their sixties.

Rachel Thwaites, of the University of York, said there remained “cultural and social pressure” on women to change their name, adding: “Women who resist this pressure are often doing so as a feminist decision or a move for equality in their relationship."

It is a tradition followed by many women in the public eye, including Zara Philips who uses her maiden name when she competes in equestrian events.
