Talk about intense! ABC Family’s newest drama ‘Twisted’ premiered June 11, and it already has us wanting more...
Avan Jogia stars in the new ABC Family series Twisted, and just after one episode, it’s already captivating us. I mean, someone was murdered in the first hour; how much more intense can you get?!
‘Twisted’: The Backstory
Danny Desai, Avan’s character, killed his aunt when he was 11 years old while she was babysitting him and his two friends — Jo Masterson (Maddie Hasson) and Lacey Porter (Kylie Bunbury) — so he was sent to a juvenile detention center. Upon his release five years later, he returns to high school, much to the dismay of everyone in the school and community.
The show opens with a dream sequence involving the day Danny committed the murder, which was a dream of Jo’s. Despite the fact that the murder happened five years prior, she’s clearly still affected by what Danny did, and is dreading his return to school — possibly more than everyone else.
Danny Immediately Gets Labeled As ‘Socio’
Lacey was interviewed for the city news regarding Danny’s return, and when she referred to him as “Socio,” the name stuck. Even though she’s the reason for his harsh nickname, Lacey was one of the first people Danny approached when he returned to school, along with Jo. At first, they both wanted nothing to do with him, but he guilt tripped them into giving him a break and attempting to rekindle the friendship they had before the murder.
This makes me wonder: Does he have a motive for guilt tripping them, or is he really trusworthy now that he’s out of juvie?
To get some clarity, Jo asked Danny why he killed his aunt, but he said he can’t tell her — or anyone, for that matter. So once someone tells him they know why he killed his aunt, things don’t end well.
Someone Gets MURDERED!
It was only the first episode, yet one of the characters already turned up dead! Regina Crane (Karynn Moore), Lacey’s best friend, had the hots for Danny, and her friends thought she was crazy. In an attempt to get Danny to come over and sleep with her, Regina texted him that she knows why he killed his aunt. After reading the text, he seemed worried, but still didn’t act upon it.
Or maybe he did act on it, because Regina was found DEAD the next day! She was discovered by her housemaid, laying on her floor, beaten to death. And, of course, Danny was instantly the prime suspect.
The strange connection between Danny and Regina was the necklace she wore. When she invited him to her party the night before she was found dead, he noticed it; and when he asked her where she got it, and she told him it was a gift.
The necklace was the only thing missing when she was found, and although Danny denied killing her, he had the necklace at the end of the episode! At first it seemed like Danny might have actually been innocent, but then how did he obtain the necklace? Such a cliffhanger!
Regardless of his possible insanity, Danny is actually pretty charismatic and witty, which makes the show not only leave readers wanting more because of the mystery, but enjoyable and funny along the way.
