The avant-garde Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is back with his futuristic film Paani, which has Hrithik Roshan in the main lead. The first look of the film is out and says, “When the wells run dry, we will know the worth of Paani.”
Shekhar has been toying with this idea for quite long. In the August of 2005, he talked about 'Paani' in his blog for the first time: “Today another dream was rekindled. Paani. A film that has lived in my consciousness for almost 5 years, when I watched 50 women and children standing in the hot sun in Mumbai. Each carrying a bucket waiting for a tap to start dripping with water.”
As reported online, “The movie is based in the thirty-five years into the future in a city with a population of 20 million people. A war has begun in the quest for water known as the Water Wars between those that have water and those that do not. At a time when water has become a weapon of social and economic control.”
