Selena Gomez refused to confirm what Taylor Swift said to her at the VMAs.
Selena Gomez has stuck up for pal Taylor Swift by refusing to clear up what she said at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The singers sat next to each other at the event and Taylor, who briefly dated Harry Styles earlier this year, was reported to have been lip read saying "Shut the f *** up" during the One Direction star's acceptance speech for Best Song Ever as song of the summer.

But when a reporter at the premiere of Selena's new film Getaway asked what her friend had really said, she replied: "Don't try that with me."
She later said she is protective of her friends: "I think girls need to be more supportive of each other. I definitely agree with that. I'm all about that.
"Taylor has been one of those girls. We have been friends for five years. She is very strong. She doesn't care what people think and she inspires me."
Selena won "Best Pop Video" for "Come & Get It" at the ceremony on Sunday and said she didn't expect to win.
She said: "So I am watching the beautiful boys, One Direction who are not bad to look at, then they said my name. I looked at Taylor ... it was surreal. Because I do put so much work into my music. There's so much talk of everything. But I did put my heart and soul into it so I was really excited. It was great. "
